About the Platonic

"Regular polyhedra" or "Platonic solids" are
polyhedra with congruent regular polygons as faces where the same number of faces meet at
each vertice. From Pythagoras to Plato, himself a Pythagorean,
the five regular polyhedra were discovered by the ancient Greeks.
These shapes are also called the Platonic solids, after the ancient
Greek philosopher Plato. Theaetetus' work, speculated that these five solids were the
shapes of the fundamental components of the physical universe. The
Pythagoreans knew of the tetrahedron, the cube, and the dodecahedron; the mathematician
Theaetetus added the octahedron and the icosahedron. The
Platonic Solids belong to the group of geometric figures called polyhedra. The Ancient Greeks regularly meditated by visualizing five
three-dimensional, geometric shapes known as the Platonic Solids. They believed they
could alter their consciousness and achieve mystical experiences. PLATONIC SOLIDS
MAY BE USED IN SACRED GEOMETRY. The five shapes - tetrahedron, cube, octahedron,
dodecahedron, and icosahedron -all occur naturally in crystals. The criteria for Platonic
solids is that all of their edges be equal. Considering the Platonic Solids, there are
five so named because they were known at the time of Plato circa (427-347 BC), even though
Pythagoras used them 150 years earlier; he called them the perfect solids. These are five
figures of enormous importance. They are components of the energy fields around our
bodies. It is a little-known fact that four of the five Platonic solids come out of
Metatron's cube. “Polyhedra” is a Greek word meaning “many
faces.” There are five of these, and they are characterized by the fact that each
face is a regular polygon, that is, a straight-sided figure with equal sides and equal
angles. "The Platonic solids feature
prominently in the philosophy of Plato for whom they are named. Plato wrote
about them in the dialogue Timaeus c.360 B.C. in which he
associated each of the four classical elements (earth, air, water, and fire)
with a regular solid. Earth was associated with the cube, air with the
octahedron, water with the icosahedron, and fire with the tetrahedron. There
was intuitive justification for these associations: the heat of fire feels
sharp and stabbing (like little tetrahedra). Air is made of the octahedron;
its minuscule components are so smooth that one can barely feel it. Water,
the icosahedron, flows out of one's hand when picked up, as if it is made of
tiny little balls. By contrast, a highly un-spherical solid, the hexahedron
(cube) represents earth. These clumsy little solids cause dirt to crumble
and break when picked up, in stark difference to the smooth flow of water.
Moreover, the solidity of the Earth was believed to be due to the fact that
the cube is the only regular solid that tesselates Euclidean space. The
fifth Platonic solid, the dodecahedron, Plato obscurely remarks, "...the god
used for arranging the constellations on the whole heaven". Aristotle added
a fifth element, aithêr (aether in Latin, "ether" in English) and postulated
that the heavens were made of this element, but he had no interest in
matching it with Plato's fifth solid."
