Larimar - Atlantis Stone

ABOUT LARIMAR:
Larimar is only found in one place in the entire world, re-discovered in 1974. It is a mysteriously attracting and extraordinary stone. Although it is of hot volcanic origin, it disperses a soothing calmness and serenity. It's colors evoke the beauty of the Caribbean sea, the most fabulous part of the Atlantic Ocean!

It was originally discovered in the year 1916 in Bahoruco/Barahona, SW of the Dominican Republic, by the Spanish born priest Miguel Domingo Fuertes Loren. It was not until 1974 that the American Peace Corps Volunteer, Norman Rilling and the Dominican, Miguel Mendez, rediscovered this stone on the beaches of Barahona close to the river Bahoruco. This stone was analyzed by several geologists, also by the Smithsonian Institute in USA, and they all agreed that it has a volcanic origin and belongs to the group of the Pectolite. The exception is that this is the only blue Pectolite found to date.

This semi-precious stone was named after Mr. Mendez’s daughter “LARISSA” (Lari) and the Spanish word for sea “Mar”. Larimar. Like the Caribbean Sea, Larimar reflects the different shades of blue, from light to deep blues, and shades jade greens. Often sparkled with the white and gray colors of the clouds in the sky and peppered now and then with red dendrites.
