Not part of the house....

Maureen Barron wrote:

I was living in a very suburban, mundane house in the suburbs of Perth, Western Australia for two years. The house's energy always felt great. I had moved there from a house that dated from the turn of the last century and it had once been a half-way house for men. That house taught me how horrible an energy a house can have, footsteps, doors slamming, glass smashing sounds in the middle of the night, waking to someone or  something touching me and whispering in my ear. That house made it clear how little it liked me (and all the  women who lived there subsequently) and I moved out.

The first year I lived in the new house, my flat- mates and I heard voices on the outside of the house, down  the side passage. Crime is rife in Perth and we assumed it was an attempted scope-out or break-in and put  locks on the side gates. There were no further troubles that year. The next year I had a new flatmate who had considerable psychic gifts, James. That same year I became  interested in Tarot cards and developed my own inherent gifts slowly and cautiously, never treating it as a  "game".

As my abilities increased I was given a Ouija board as a gift. One day I tried to use it half-heartedly  and then abandoned it, without taking any precautions in the form of prayers etc. STUPID. Over the next few weeks, the noises began again, first outside the house, then INSIDE. It was like it "he"  walked in off the street and decided it was time to move in. I began waking with a start during the night with  the feeling that something was in my room. That had not happened to me since the previous house 2 years  before, and then never before that. Once I woke to see my entire room lit as if it was a bright summer day with a man mid-forties with a tan and  a red and white striped shirt, looking down at me (condescendingly, too!). He walked through my bed, and  then it was dark again. I began dismissing these sightings as one does when in denial, and said nothing to my flatmates who thought I  was a kook already.

Then one night as three other people were over having a quiet drink, I began waking at  twenty minute intervals. Just as I would drift into deep sleep, I would be woken by the feeling that there was  someone in my room. Firstly at the door and then creeping up to my bed, each time a little closer. Once, I  called out to the darkness in my room, thinking it was my friends sneaking into my room to scare me for a  joke, only to find no one there and my friends nowhere near that part of the house. This happened four or five  times 'till, the last time, I felt the presence hovering over my bed. At that, I turned on the light and stormed into  the loungeroom, unable to stay in the room any longer. I told my flatmates who thought I was quietly, sleepily  mad.

The next day I was given some advice from a friend, who advised me to talk to the spirit and ask it to leave  me alone or else find a better way of contacting me, as scaring me wasn't working. I did so that night, not  telling my flatmates. I turned off the light and I suddenly became freezing cold underneath two doonas. I  echoed what I had said to the darkness and finally the cold passed, allowing me to sleep. The next morning I woke after a peaceful night and made my way to the kitchen. I found my flatmate, coffee  in hand looking more than a little worse for wear. He told me that during the night he had woken to feel   something enter his room and sit on the end of his bed. James was paralyzed and tried unsuccessfully to call  my name. Finally, he felt it get up from the bed and heard it go out his bedroom door, down the corridor, and  out the front door.

Several weeks later, I was left alone in the house for a night and decided to sleep in the loungeroom. I sort of  knew this would be the final showdown. At 3am I woke to the sound of a terrible mechanical whirring. As I  searched for the source of the sound in the dark, I realized it was the dishwasher. It had turned itself on. The  lights on the panel weren't lit and when I opened the door on it, it didn't stop and I noticed that there was no  water being used. I switched the power off at the wall but still it wouldn't stop. I pulled out the plug, and finally  it did stop. This had never happened before. It never happened again. I believe the cheeky, not malevolent, spirit had seen the opportunity in James, with his natural gifts, and me  with my aids to make contact but had given up when it realized that our fear would and did get in the way. It wasn't part of the house. I am sure.

Subject: Problems since last summer
Date: Wed, 20 Jun 2001
From:  "George"

Dear  Lori,
"You are the only people we have tried to correspond with about our problem. My wife, three children and myself live in South Carolina. We have our own business doing computer and business consulting. Since last summer, we have had many experiences with what now have come to know as several entities or what we believe are ghosts. One of my daughters (7 years old, 6 at the time) and myself have both seen a little girl traveling up the stairs at different times at a previous residence and we brought it to my wife's attention when we saw it. It scared her to have me affirm what my daughter claimed she had seen. We have also had several instances in our current residence of extremely cold spots, especially in our bedroom. We have both seen the same things at the same times, in fact we agreed not to say what we had seen but simply to draw a picture and both pictures bore a remarkable resemblance.

I often see orb and dark shadowy apparitions. This has bothers us but we have learned to try to ignore the footsteps upstairs and the occasional slam or bang from upstairs but last night we both had a physical encounter. Early in the evening I felt something push my leg while I was under the covers. It left an impression in the blanket. I did not tell my wife, because I didn't want to frighten her. She came to me today and told me she had pushed while sleeping and had a mark where she had her gums cut. She has had quite enough and so have I. My daughters are afraid to go into their rooms sometimes and don't know why, they just say their room seems scary. Of course we have not shared any of our experiences with them.

I have even had one of my friends who is the most skeptical person you could ever meet come over. We told him about a couple of our experiences and he agreed to walk through our house. After entering our bedroom and seeing that it was about 20-25 degrees colder than the rest of the house he said he still thought it was all false. He then experiences the feelings of a presence we had experienced. When we asked him to go upstairs, he got half way up and said he believed us and has had seen and felt enough and promptly left. He didn't come back for about three months.

I often feel the presence of positive energies as well and when they are present the heavy feeling in the house seems to lessen.

I was hesitant to write this email but in doing so I hope you can offer some advice.
Thank you for your time,"
George

Is it a haunting?
Date: Sat, 28 Jul 2001 04:35:45 -0400
From: "Kimberly"

"Hello. I'm not sure if this is a haunting or not, but, since you're more experienced in this area, I was hoping for some insight. Recently, myself, my brother, his wife & there three kids moved into a large home that was built in 1929. The basement has several small closets in it, which you can step into, and there are several 'hiding' places in them. (We are assuming that they were used during the prohibition times.) Written on one of the doors is "Hazel Oberle and Sunny Boyd '30."

About two weeks after I moved in, (I moved in after they did), I woke up around 4am. The bedrooms are on the top floor of the house.  I could hear footsteps downstairs, and doors closing. I lay in bed for a moment, dismissing it not being fully awake. The footsteps were then headed up the stairs. (The house is all wood & brick.) I knew the house was secure downstairs, because I had done it myself. Oddly enough, I wasn't very scared by the noises. As I reached down to pick up the phone, ready to dial 911, the steps quickly went back down and I heard the basement door
close again.

The next morning, I relayed this to my sister-in-law. She was, needless to say, stunned at what I relayed. She said she had heard something similar
before, and had went so far as to go downstairs to investigate. She had already decided that it was a ghost(s) who was just checking to make sure everything was secure. We relayed this to my brother, who dismissed it all.

Several weeks later, I was in my bedroom when I could hear my brother demanding his wife's attention. He was telling her to "look by the air
conditioner, dammit!" She pleaded that she couldn't see what he was talking about. As I came into the bedroom, asking what the problem was, I learned that he was claiming to have seen a man standing by the air conditioner. This gives the theory of a haunting more weight to me, because my brother is a 'nay-sayer' who doesn't believe in much, especially ghosts.

The only thing I can think of aside from that, is that every time I'm in the basement, I start to sweat - badly. But, when I walk in front of the door
with "Hazel Oberle and Sunny Boyd" written on it, it seems to stop as quickly as it started. What suggestions do you have? I'd like to obtain some photographic evidence of this, but have not found anything telling me what is the best type of camera to use; I've heard that digital is the worse, etc. I want to stress that both my sister-in-law and I agree that these are not 'evil' ghosts. I almost forgot -- my sister-in-law did tell me that about a week after my experience, she woke up in the middle of the night to discover my niece's bedroom light going on & off, for no apparent reason.

Thank you for your time."

Cordially,

Kimberly

She sees ghosts!
4 year-old daughter -  Ryan and Orb.

To Whom It May Concern,
I am writing this to ask some advice. My now 4 year old daughter has been  seeing ghosts/spirits since she was 2 years old. She is a very shy and
sensitive child and the sightings were very traumatic to her and as her  mother to me. We have since moved out of the house we once lived in and where  all of the sightings happened however last week I took a picture of her on my  digital camera to put up on my web site and when I download the photo's there  is what appears to be orb by her. I'm concerned that once again she will  become a terrified, afraid little girl like she was before. How do I help her  deal with these sightings? We believe that who she is seeing is her  Great-aunt Patti who died of cancer when my daughter was 14 months old. I'm  hoping that you will have some advice to send my way.
Sincerely,
Amy

"This is going to be a bit long but I'm going to start about 3 months before
Patti (who we believe is the ghost) died. Also this is just Ryan's story with
Patti.

Patti found out that she had tested positive for cervical cancer. On  Thanksgiving we went over to my Mother-in-laws house to have dinner. We ended  staying the night rather than drive the 30 minutes home that night. The next  morning Patti was in extreme pain which she compared to labor pains! I  finally was able to talk her into going to the ER at 1:00 PM. By 8 PM I knew  there was something seriously wrong. I called my mother-in-law to come up to  the hospital to wait to hear the news. At 1:00 am we found out that Patti's  cancer had spread and she didn't have much longer to live. She was refereed  to another hospital (very well known hospital) for a 2nd opinion. She was  told that at the least she had 2 months to live and the most was 9 months.  The cancer had spread to her uterus, bladder and now her kidneys which is why  she was in so much pain.

On January 3, 1998 Steven (my husband) left for the Peace Officer Academy.  Before he left he made Patti promise not to die before he graduated. On Feb. 13, 1998 Steven graduated and came home. He got home at 9:00pm. We spent some  time with the kids and then put them to bed. At 11:45 PM Steven's mom called  and said "if there is anything you want to say to Patti now is the time." We  both told her how much we loved her, how much we would miss her but that we  understood it was time for her to go. We left our house and at 12:30am on Feb.14, 1998 3 months after we found out she was going to die Patti passed on. We  were unable to get there before she died.

Two weeks after Patti died I was at home (not the house where Ryan began to  see spirits) with Ryan who was at the time 14 months. We lived in a two  bedroom apartment that had the hallway to the bedrooms and the bedrooms  separated from the living room by a door. I was vacuuming when I heard very  clearly "Amy" I shut the vacuum off and looked around. No one there so I went  back to vacuuming. A couple of minutes later I heard it again "Amy..... Amy"  I once again stopped the vacuum and went to check on Ryan. I opened the hall  door then opened her door and she was sound asleep in her crib. I started to  get goose bumps but just brushed it off and went back to cleaning. A few minutes later once again I heard my name "Amy.... Amy..... AMY" The last Amy wasn't yelled but much louder and more clear than the other times. I called my mother-in-law and asked if she was ok. She said yes and asked why I wanted  to know. I told her I thought I had heard her say my name. Thinking back  later I realized how much Patti and my mother-in-law sounded alike. That  night when Steven got home I mentioned to him that I had something weird  happen. He asked me what had happened and I told him. As I was telling him  got a very weird look on his face. The day he left for the academy he went over to see Patti alone. He talked with her for about 2 hours because he knew  that he may never see her alive again. He then told me part of what they had  said. He asked Patti that when she died if she was able to if she would come  back and say his name 3 times!!! I believe that it was Patti saying my name  and she was keeping her promise to Steven.

Patti was cared for at home with the help of hospice care. She died in her  room surrounded by her family and friends. Six months after she died we moved  in with my mother-in-law (same house that Patti died in) and didn't really  notice anything. Things were busy as my mother-in-law was moving out and  Steven and I were renting the house in her place. After everyone was moved  and things settled down we began to notice that Ryan who was almost two at  the time was acting weird. She refused to walk down the hall alone, in fact refused to be anywhere in the house alone whether is was night or day. Right  after she turned two and right after Christmas (her b-day is Dec 19) she   started waking in the middle of the night screaming bloody murder. When I   would go to comfort her she would continually look over my shoulder to the   area by her brother's crib, duck her head back down, and ask me to tell the   lady to go away as tears streamed down her face. It was a very difficult time   for us. This continued for two weeks, every night! It got so bad that we   finally had her in our bed to ease her fears.

I was telling my Grandma about Ryan and the problems that we were having (not  yet realizing that it was Patti) and she got a weird look on her face. I  asked her what and she said you know when you were her age you did the same  thing. You had a invisible friend or so we thought at first. You said her  name was Jamie. My grandma then went on to say how my "friend" went  everywhere with us or so she thought according to my behavior. She said I  would talk to her, hold her hand and let anyone know if they were about to  sit on her. She said then suddenly she was gone and I didn't mention her  again. She said that when questioned about it all I said was that she had to  go away. I've always "felt" spirits/ghost but never thought my daughter would  too. I later found out that my Grandmother and Mother have all at one time  felt or seen spirits/ghosts! I'm guessing that it's something that runs in  our family and Ryan has the gift too, although right now she doesn't see it  as a gift!

Later that same week after more nightmares we were at my mother-in-laws house  and telling her about it. She said she thought it was Patti checking up on  the kids. Patti was very close to my children so that made sense to me. She  got out a picture of Patti and called Ryan over. When Ryan saw that picture  I'll never forgot the look on her face or what she said. Her face drained of  color and she took four or five steps back from my mother-in-law. I asked her  what was wrong and she said "I don't like that one. She died, She's sick!"  Now when Patti died Ryan was only 14 months. We don't have any pictures hanging up of Patti and Ryan doesn't remember her at all! What I was  wondering about was the "that one" comment. What did she mean by that? How  many did we have in that house? My mother-in-law put the picture away and for  about the next hour Ryan was glued to my side. She finally went to go play  with the kids.

I soon found out what the "that one" comment meant. Over the next couple of   days Ryan continued to be very uncomfortable being alone anywhere in the   house. She was always with someone she would even sit in the bathroom on the   floor when I took my shower so that she didn't have to be alone. At night if   she had to use the restroom she would pee her pants rather than walk to the   bathroom alone, even with the hall light on! One day she was in my room   sitting on my bed, watching TV. I was in the bathroom (with the door open at  her demand) and she called to me. Not upset or afraid but with a question. I  walked out of the bathroom and noticed she was staring at the closet. She  pointed to where Steven hangs his tee-shirts (none of which are white) and  said "who is that man?" I looked and asked her where? She once again pointed  to the same area and said "there" I didn't know what to tell her and the  first words out of my mouth were "I don't know honey why don't you ask them  their name?" She looked at me with a horrified expression and shook her head  no. Ryan is the type of child that if she doesn't see you everyday, to her,  you are a stranger. She wouldn't even take candy from you, with me standing  right there. You would have to hand it to me and then I would hand it to her.  So I wasn't surprised by her refusal to ask "it" it's name. Over the next  couple of weeks she was slowly becoming terrified of whatever it was that was  in the closet. She started to call him the Tee-shirt man. When questioned  about him all we could ever get out of her was that it was a man, like Daddy  (when we asked how old she said like Daddy) with brown hair that was mean!  How she knew he was mean I have no idea.

Now we started to have serious  problems with Ryan. I started to have to sleep with her in the living room  because she wouldn't sleep in her room because of the "lady" and now our room  because of the "tee-shirt" man. After a month of seeing my then two and a  half year old go from a happy, out going child to a looking over her  shoulder, jumping at shadows child I finally asked a friend if she knew  anyone who knew anything about ghosts. She said yes a man and a woman. Their  names were Amber and Todd. Amber came over (she had been told NOTHING about  Ryan, Patti or what was going on) with my friend Michelle to have dinner. As  she walked into the house she looked down the hall towards Ryan's room and  stared. She didn't say anything then about it though. Later that night after  talking about spirit's and ghosts (Ryan was asleep in the formal dining room)  she pulled me aside and said I don't know if you were aware but you have a  ghost in your house and it is in your daughter's room. I asked if she knew  what it wanted or it's name. She said she didn't get a name but felt she was   somehow connected to Ryan and very protective of the kids. She said she got   the feeling that she was standing "guard" over the kids at night. Later on  she was looking at pictures of the kids and saw one of Patti holding Ryan.   She asked me who that was. I told her it was Steven's Aunt (we still hadn't   told her anything) She said that is the woman in the kid's room! We then   filled her in what was going on in the house and our concern's for Ryan. She   asked me how Ryan slept? I asked her what do you mean? She asked if Ryan   slept with the blanket over her head and I said yes, why? She said that a lot of young children who see ghosts and don't understand and it can't really be   explained to (like at Ryan's age) tend to sleep with their heads under the   blanket. Ryan was creating her own space that Patti, or any other spirit   couldn't come into.

When the movie the Sixth Sense came out my husband and I went and watched it  and it so much reminded me of Ryan. Especially the tent in his room with all  the figurines in it! I remember watching that movie and seeing the same  terror in my daughters face that I saw in that little boys in the movie. I  don't know if they realized when they made that movie how right they were!  Robert (who is a Wicca) came over and we talked about the spirits and how to  help Ryan deal with what she was seeing. He suggested a few things 1) when  Ryan would wake up crying to go to her and talk to Patti. 2) show her  pictures of Patti and her together. So that Ryan would understand that Patti  loved her and would never hurt her! As for the tee-shirt man he didn't know  what to do about that one. Since that one seemed to be contained to our room  we kept our bedroom door shut at all times. That seemed to fix her fears of  the tee-shirt man.

Now how to fix the problem with Patti. Ryan was afraid of her and had no  memory's of her. We couldn't show her pictures of Patti because she was so  scared. The first night in her room I was once again wakened by her screams.  I went in to find her under the blanket, head and all. When she heard me say  her name she told me Patti was there. I picked Ryan up and held her in my lap  and I talked to Patti. I'll never forget that night as long as I live or the  slow transformation of my little girl.

Below is the conversation that I had with Ryan that night.

A= Amy and R= Ryan
A: What's the matter Ry?
R: Mommy the lady (crying under the blanket)
A: Ryan you know honey that's your Aunt Patti and she loves you very much
(picking Ryan up and holding her in my lap)
R: I don't like her. She scares me
A: Did you know that the night you were born that Micah (Ryan's big brother)
and Aunt Patti made a card for you. Aunt Patti brought Micah up to the
hospital so that he could see you.
R: She did
A: Yeap she did. She was so excited that you were here.
R: why does she watch me?
A: She wants to make sure that you are ok. You know you can talk to her if
you want. If she scares you, you can ask her to leave.
R: I don't want to talk to her
A: Ok how about if Mommy talks to her
R: yes that is good
A: Ok you ready?
R: yes
A: Aunt Patti I know that you love the kids and I know that you want to make
sure that they are ok but Ryan is scared. She doesn't remember you. It's ok
for you to come see the kids and make sure they're ok but when you come can
you make it so they don't see you? We love you Aunt Patti. Are you ready to
lay down now Ryan?
R: no (not looking where Patti usually would stand)
A: Ryan I don't think she's here anymore. I think she knows your afraid so
she went away.
R: She's gone (finally looking where Patti would stand)
A: See I told you. All you have to do is ask her to go away.
I told Ryan I loved her, tucked her in and went to my own bed.

Ryan continued to have bad nights with Patti but the more we talked about  Patti, especially when Micah would tell Ryan stories about Patti and how much  fun he used to have with her she slowly wasn't afraid anymore. Now she talks  about Patti openly without fear and when asked will tell you all about her Aunt Patti who used to visit her and how much she loved her! "

Thanks for writing. Little children are able to see spirits and other beings like angel etc.. This is common in children. Society isn't exactly happy with this and that is where the problem is. Society thinks that anyone who sees ghosts is schizophrenic (crazy). Please be careful about who knows
about her gift. I doubt that if she's being visited by great Aunt Patty, that she'd feel fear. Typically if a child is seeing the apparition of a loved one the
response is not one of fear.

Keep a log

Subject: HAUNTING QUERY FROM UK.

From: "Stew Lawton"
To:  <Argonaut-Greywolf@cox.net>

Dear Lori,

"My flat mates and I live in a turn of the century house located in the Liverpool suburbs. We moved in early September 1998. Things were fine for the first few months, then one of our flat mates (Lisa) mentioned that she felt a constant cold spot in her room at the end of her bed. At first we all dismissed this and never really gave the issue a great deal of thought. As time progressed she continued to complain about her lights flickering for no
apparent reason, electrical appliances turning on and off and feeling uncomfortable in the house.

During the summer (2000), I had just fallen asleep when I was startled by five loud aggressive thumps on the main house door. I glanced at the clock  to see it was 0300 hours. I remember clearly turning my bedside light off, thinking that whoever it was would go away, this was then followed be exactly the same aggressive sequence of knocks on my bedroom door. Although this could be explained by my fatigue, the experience was so real I could feel the vibrations from the knocks travel across the bedroom wall. Reluctantly I opened the door, and although there was nothing to be seen, I became overwhelmed with a sense of pressure and fear all over my body. I could only compose myself by waking up my flat mate (Dawn), who helped calm me down.

This was shortly followed by numerous incidents where all the alarm clocks in the house were reset with no apparent explanation and other people in the house also began to mention feeling a presence, always on or around the stairs/the room occupied by Lisa.

This activity seemed to disappear and stop completely around September and was quickly forgotten about. However around early November, Colin claimed to see a figure walking up the stairs and disappearing out of sight. It should be noted that this was only out of the corner of his eye. These sightings continued through to the end of December with an increasing regularity. Then one night, There were five very gentle knocks, once again on my door. This experience was so different from the first, that I felt somehow at ease. I never really discussed this experience with the others, but everyone commented that the house did not feel as 'unsettled', but almost calm and welcoming.

Once again there was no activity until a few weeks ago. Firstly Paul (who had always been skeptical) saw a white figure on the Stairs entering the attic room. Whatever he saw was so real that he assumed in was one of us until he called thinking it was one of us, and we emerged from downstairs. He was somewhat shocked by this. This again happened when Colin and Dawn saw someone sat in the lounge (from outside/through a window) and assumed it was me. Again nobody was in the house. Another Flat mates girlfriend (who does not live in the house and was not aware of these sightings) saw the exactsame thing that Paul had on the stairs and again assumed it was one of us. After discovering that it wasn't she revealed that she had also heard five knocks on the house doors. She has also claimed to feel extremely uncomfortable on the stairs. She described the experience as though someone was touching the back of her neck. She was almost reduced to tears by this feeling. These sightings have once again increased with an alarming regularity. This as also been accompanied by a number of housemates suddenly waking up in the middle of the night, convinced that someone is in the room
watching them.

We have tried taking photos of the most affected areas of the house, but these did not show anything out of the ordinarily.

We would be grateful for any guidance or advice you could provide.

Many Thanks....Stewart Lawton (Liverpool)."

First of all thanks for sharing your information with me. May I post this on my ghost story site? The reason for the haunting might be found if you research into the history of the flat and the land the place was built on. Also, Have you ever looked in the attic? Did anyone die in the home?
What is the flats proximity to power lines? I do have a feeling that someone in your group of room mates may be anartist. Let me know. Also, Has anyone played with a Ouija board. Is anyone psychic?> I'd like to recommend that you begin keeping a log of activity.

Lori,

Thank you for your speedy response. To answer your questions, Dawn is an artist. She studied Art for two years and originally considered studying a B.A. (Hons) degree in fine art at Dundee University, however she opted to study ancient history and archeology at Liverpool University. She graduated 2 years ago. She has had a number of exhibitions in Edinburgh. Interestingly enough, she is also perhaps the most psychic person in the house and she can always sense any bad news concerning her immediate family or any close friends.

We have never used a Ouija board, although we have had numerous conversations about doing so. However, we have always concluded that we did not feel comfortable in doing so. Although not clear from my first e-mail, the attic room is actually a bedroom occupied by Andy. He is the only person who has never experienced activity at all, thus he is somewhat skeptical, We have have considered that he may not be susceptible to such occurrences and this may be why the activity is concentrated in areas in would must predominately use.

There are no power lines in the immediate vicinity of the house.

Although we do not know a great deal regarding the history of the house. We do know that the house was burnt out and left derelict for a number of years. It was extensively refitted and modified around four years ago. Seven other people lived here for just under 12 months before we all moved in. When we first viewed the property, we were so impressed with the property, we could not contain our enthusiasm. One of them commented that the novelty wears off very quickly, Although this may have just been a passing comment, we were never able to determine exactly what he meant. We do know that we are only the second group of people to move into the house since the refitting. You should also be aware that as far as we know no one died in the fire and the house may have been abandoned for many years before that incident.

Creative energy, artists and psychics have special energy. This special energy acts like a magnet for paranormal energy. I suspect that the source may have started here. ( If you could communicate an important message with someone who has the ability see, hear or feel you I'll bet you'd choose to reach out to the gifted person too. Why bothercontacting the person who doesn't feel or see anything. That would be a waist of time. That is why spirits try contacting psychics. I feel a connection to the haunting stems from something traumatic which happened in your attic. A death perhaps.

The second point is that the energy may have been caused by a traumatic even, (fire, death, murder, suicide, extremely emotional or traumatic event) from the past. This is known as a residual haunting. On the other hand if you make direct eye contact or interact with a spirit this it a true haunting.  Sometimes you have both. I assume that you may have a few antiques in the flat. If so, this might be a source of activity too. Objects like antique beds etc... can be haunted.

I'd like to caution you against using a Ouija board because this opens a doorway for negative, positive and/or trickster spirits to come through and feed off of your energy. You might have to move out of the flat if you begin to feel threatened or feel an increase in activity. Why put yourself through something unpleasant?I'd like to encourage your artist friend to pursue her talent and pursue her gift. She probably feels a bit frustrated from having a well of creative energy and not being able to use it on a daily basis.

Blessings,

Lori
Ps I look forward to hearing from you again. Let me know about the results of your log. PSS please don't waist any money on a clearing or medium.

"It Wasn't a Dream"

I heard some one panting by my ear at a distance which sounded  like only inches away. I turned toward the sound. All I have to say is that I had never seen eyes 'redder' than that or irises 'sky bluer' than that. The thing  that bothered me the most was the fact that I felt paralyzed and couldn't  move. There was a hole through her voice box so she used sign language. Since I'm slightly deaf myself , I knew exactly what she was saying to me. Her sign language to me communicated , 'Stop  shaking, I am not going to hurt you.   I was suffocated. That is why my eyes  are red. I was born  without a voice box.' Just then, my sister opened the door and was so frightened   that she screamed out loud. I Turned back to find the ghostly girl had vanished. This happened to me back in  the summer 1906. Later on, I
found  out that her name was Lynn Rhodes who previously lived in  my house and was suffocated by her husband whom, afterwards, killed himself."

Everyone Told Me That These Rooms Were Haunted.

Hi, my name is Kelly  and I am new to this. Truthfully very skeptical  of the whole thing. I work in a hospital in California as a  polysomnographer (sleep disorder tech). We recently opened up a lab on the  fourth floor of the hospital. that used to be our old ICU. I was told after we  had opened the lab that the rooms #5 and #8 are haunted. We do our studies  in rooms #6 and #8. I have so far only used room #8 for studies.

We use black out shades and curtains in each room, infrared cameras and  amplifier system. The patient's room is very dark. I am able to hear and
see my patient though out the night at the nurses station via T.V. and VCR  recorder. I have seen white lights (orbs?) shoot across the room at various  times of the night and not occurring in the same place on the TV screen.  Some times they fly by fast and are faded and sometimes they go by slowly and  are brighter. Sometimes at the top of the screen or the corner top/bottom,  and sometimes straight down the center.

The last sleep study done had a member of the clergy in the room and there  was lots of activity! More than on any other night so far. I have played
back the video tape and the white lights have been recorded. I have also heard  noises, usually sounds like something is being scraped across the floor or has been dropped (thump). Nurses during the day reported that my TV screens had (mysteriously) turned on by themselves?

There is also a call light console at the nurses station that lights up then  goes out through out the night. Again no one is any of the rooms but room
#8. This is an isolated area of the hospital. It is used during the day for  our Cath Lab recovery area (out-patient procedure). I come in at 7pm for the night studies several times a week.

The best  explanation I can get is that there was really bad Code Blues in those  rooms. Nothing went right and all patients died. Most everyone that was  placed in those rooms died. I'm skeptical of this explanation too, but I  can't get much more out of my co-workers. Things like young people that  should not have died, did, etc.  They also say that monitors would turn on  that had been turned off and that there was a heart rate wave form tracing  going across the screen.

Recently, some nurses told me that a week ago my T.V. monitors at the nurses  station both came on by themselves. I only use the T.V. monitor for room #8.  In order to not get an image on the T.V., you must turn it off. I do this  at the end of my studies. If it was left on, it would be easily noticed.  The T.V.'s are 13 inch screens.

I must admit  though, I feel uncomfortable (my own imagination running away) when I do  studies. I would not know if there is activity in the other rooms because we   don't have infrared cameras in them. I think I told you also about the call   light console lighting up off and on during the night also? This is located out at the nurses station. Sometimes the red light for the nurse is lit and  sometimes it lights for the aide. Sometimes both lights will be lit together. It is really weird.

I really want to know if I should be worried or concerned for my patients or
myself. Nothing violent has occurred, but we have only been operational
since January. Any info you can give me would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Kelly

Hello there.

"I would like to tell you about my experiences in The UK. I have had several over the last few years all as puzzling as the next. My favorite two are as follows.

One

                                           UK Roadside Ghost Sighting

About six years ago my brothers and I had traveled from our home In Bristol UK to London to see Prince in concert. On the way home we stopped at a motorway service station for a coffee to freshen our selves up for the remainder of the journey ( approx 2.00 am UK time ) Anyway as we left the service station, a small slip roadbent round to the left, enabling access to the motorway. Clearly standing at the side of the road was an elderly woman of what I describe as a disheveled nature. She was holding two bags in her hands and as she past my side of the car I looked right at her. I then mentioned to my eldest brother who was driving that it was odd to see such a thing given that walking on a motorway is both dangerous and illegal. He said yes , when I turned to have another look at her, she was gone. The strange thing is, she was there, without a shadow of doubt in my mind.

                                                                                                                            Two

                                                         Patchouli

A couple of years ago, I returned home from work at about 2 P.M. . when I went into my spare room where I use my PC, I smelt a very different smell. I think its called patchouli. Unusually, I could not smell it until I entered the room. If I stood on the landing I couldn't smell it. I tracked the smell into my wardrobe, and unpacked everything, expecting to find a broken bottle of oil etc. however, I found nothing. By now I had convinced myself that I was going mad. I went back onto the landing, shutting the door behind me. As I again entered the room, something seemed to rush straight through me causing my hairs to stand on end, goose pimples to rise and my hair and trousers to flap. In an instant, the smell had gone. I am still unsure what that was,  but as before, I know I felt something."

Thanks, Pete Tiley.

Dear Lori,

"Our house is haunted by my grandfathers ghost. We need your help! The ghost throws pictures off the walls, throws lamps at people, puts thumb tacks on chairs, wrote a note  telling us  that the one chair is his and the house is his. On the one cedar chest he wrote in the dust "get out." He called his doctor one time, hung my parents wedding picture from the  ceiling fan.  Scares the cat at night, feeds the dogs left overs, puts blood stains  on my bedroom wall and the mirror of my dresser. He took two necklaces that where heirlooms given to my dad by his mother. Open  the garage door up and down, killed our one hamster. We would like you to help us get rid of our ghost. Please get back to us as soon as you can. We really need your help. I live in Pennsylvanian. Do you think that you can still help us get rid of the ghost that we have? If you are unable to help us do you know any one that could help us? Please respond   as soon as you can."

From: GhostHuntersCircle

"There is one idea I had as far as the Grandfathers Case. This is  pretty simple and as you know most Ghost Hunters do this too. But has  the family told grandfather that his house will be okay and they will   take care of his chair and that he is scaring them and have the  family to ask the grandfather to quit. If they want him to leave they  can tell him again they will take care of everything and that it is  time for him to move on. I know this is simple, but it works alot of  times. However, each case is different. But it is one avenue of  approach. We have asked ghost to quit and they have. So maybe this   could be something that you could pass along to them if you haven't  already done so."

On our last  summer vacation, my mom, dad, sister and I spent  the night at my
aunts house,  built in the early 1900's. According to my aunt,  the house was haunted. This was long standing "phantom family joke" that our crazy aunt thought her house was haunted by a ghost!  Anyway, it was midnight, when we all decided to turn in for the night. My mom and I had a bad case of insomnia and were whispering to one another about the day  when suddenly  we both  witnessed the  apparition of a man with a a turn of the century black top hat and suit who walked into our room and  sat down on my mom's bed. We both  screamed so loud we woke everyone up.  After that bizarre encounter we never joked about the haunted house again, and we never spent the night at my aunt's  house thereafter either!   As It turns out, the home was once used as a funeral parlor during the turn of the century.

As I waited I felt what I thought to be my Aunt poking me  rather hard on my leg I turned over very annoyed and found myself completely  alone! I of course asked my Aunt if she did the poking, which she denied. I  really thought it was too hard of a touch for her anyway. (By the way my  Uncle was out running so he didn't do it either)"

"Hi:: I feel a little funny sending you this e-mail but I was actually  "visited" by a ghostly presence at my mom's house in Bemidji, MN in 1997. I  had heard aboutthe ghost from my half-brother and his wife, who lived in the  basement at the time and described the figure as wearing a long black coat  (something like a Western cowboy duster) with wild white or white blond hair;  however, my mom claimed to have never seen or heard the ghost. Anyway, it  was fairly late at night (11:00 P.M., about) onJuly 4th and I was in the  spare bedroom laying in my little bed andthinking about trying to fall  asleep, as it was really 9:00 p.m. my time (I live in Phoenix!!). My brothers (3 of them) were sleeping in my mom's living room. I remember I asked my mom to keep the hallway light on because of the stories about the  resident ghost, and as I was laying in this hot little bedroom (Minn is so  humid in the summer!) with my arms behind my head, I stared in awe as I  watched this long black coated wild haired individual come gliding towards me  down the lighted hall at a high rate of speed, entering my room. I was so  god-darned scared at what I thought I was seeing that I actually started to  pull my sheet over my head, terrrified....and just as suddently I knew that I  wasn't going to let this apparition know that I was scared, so I threw the  sheet down as I sat up in my bed and screamed: NO!! at the figure I remember that I felt in my beng that whatever this thing was, I was not going   to let it defeat or scare me. At the same time I let out my yell of  defiance, the apparition whirled in a circle and was gone in an instant. At  that moment I jumped up and ran down the halll to check on my brothers, who  were asleep!! When I realized that my brothers could not have pulled off any  practical jokes on me, I asked my mom if I could spend the rest of the night  in her bed, where I slept peacefully for what was left of the night. I will  never forget that night--although I have had other ghostly experiences!"

"I have been in two haunted houses where things were out of the ordinary.
First was a friend of mine. We would get together every week at his house and do whatever. The most common occurrence was shadows on the walls. Particularly in the dining room. The house itself was approximately 150 years old. It seemed as if one could just "feel" there was something else around. On a second occasion, my  wife saw  a lady dressed in turn of the century clothing walked by her without seeming to notice my wife. The lady went into another room and disappeared. my wife and I both observed not only the screen door, but the main front door open and close on its own.

Evidently we had a psychic, whom we also knew casually, come in to the house. She told our friend that their was an older lady, a child and a dog living in the house. She said that if a ghost appears before you it usually means they like you and mean no harm.

The second house was my wife's house were she grew up. I personally experienced things twice. Once while I spent the night I heard the tub filling with water. As I sat and listened for a minute I started to hear a conversation. The voices were definitely male, but I couldn't make out what they were saying. So, obviously, I got up to check both bathrooms and they were empty. Everyone was sound asleep.

The second time we were there alone watching a movie. We heard the basement door ( at the top of the stairs ) kind of "jiggle". We turned to look and saw the door handle turning back and forth. We went over and opened the door and checked the basement. There was no sign of anyone and everything was locked up. My mother-in-law has told tales of windows and doors opening and closing by themselves and waking up one night with someone choking her. My wife says that the family always heard footsteps and loud noises on the top floor. My wife also tells a story of when she was about 5 years old. She says her mom and dad had company over and had put the kids to sleep ( my wife and two sisters ). My wife had awaken and was going down stairs for whatever reason. She tripped and fell from the top of the stairs. She landed at the bottom on her feet uninjured. To this day she says that as she fell, something grabbed her and carried her safely to the bottom. She did not hit a single stair. She ran to the kitchen and told her dad what had happened. He told her she was just dreaming. Anyway, these were
interesting experiences. I keep my eyes and mind opened for any news of
strange things in the Maryland area."

Very Old Metal Skeleton Key

"Can I please get your opinion on something???

When we first moved into this house, the garage was completely cleaned out,  not a spec of dust. A family member of mine was walking around, inspecting  it, and when they turned to leave, they stepped onto a small metal skeleton  key. Very old. We kept it all ten years that we have lived here, and found  nothing that it fit into. So, then about a year ago, we lost a key to an old  grandfather clock. We searched and searched, to no avail. My mom was on this very computer, and NOTHING was on the floor that they key could have been in  or dropped from. However, when she left the computer and walked to the  kitchen, and came back, she stepped on it, right next to the computer. This  is not a fluke. Then, just the other day, a brass handle to a desk was found  in my sister's room, found the exact same way the keys had been. Nobody in  the room, and nothing around. The handle was thought to be in the desk, but I  guess not. Now that we are moving away, we want to know if this "poltergeist"   will follow us or not (We hope so - we want to find out the mystery behind it  all, and there is no creepy vibe beneath it all)

We do not intend to leave the key, because my mother is the link between the  occurrences. I think you are right that the key and the spirit are  inseparable, so we intend to bring it with us, hoping that the spirit will follow. "

Thanks.
Any help would be appreciated.

Firm Believer In Energies

Hi Lori,
"Maryann from Santa Clarita here! I'm writing because I am interested in purchasing a house in which the husband shot and killed the wife a few years ago. I like the house, love the neighborhood, and as you can well imagine in Southern California, a good house in a great neighborhood at a bargain price is hard to pass up! I have been there twice and have had no inkling of paranormal activity. However, it's not like I am experienced in picking up on these things! The owners say that they have not even thought about it in a long time because they have had no unusual experiences! What do you think? I'm just such a firm believer in energies! Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated! Thank You,"
Maryann

Dear Maryann,
If you move in and experience anything paranormal I might be able to investigate. How far away is Santa Clarita from Dana Point (South Orange County?) Have you considered burning sage in the house? Sometimes holy water is used. Burning sage or using holy water for a clearing isn't a sure thing in all cases but, it never hurts to try.  This is usually not effective in a real haunting!!  Lets set aside what the "SELLERS" are claiming (that they haven't noticed anything paranormal, or ghosts etc..) The number one question you need to ask is: HOW DID YOU FEEL IN THE HOUSE?  WHY ARE THEY SELLING THE HOUSE? I used to sell Real Estate in Arizona and I know that Sellers who are motivated to sell will not jeopardize a sell by talking about hauntings. It's true that they must disclose on a property sellers disclosure that there was a death on the property, and yes they SHOULD disclose a   haunting, but how would you prove it if it was haunted and they didn't feel it was! Also, there energy might be less sensitive to a haunting and they might be telling the truth!! If you move in and are sensitive to energy you might experience something that they did not.  DO YOU FEEL A PRESENCE IN THE HOUSE? Even after an investigation, a clearing is not a 100% guaranteed result. Sure, I can take measurements and record valid data and take orb pictures ( not in all cases) in order to assure the homeowner that what they are experiencing is real, but unfortunately I can't promise a clearing. Especially if it is a residual haunting ( replay of a traumatic event such as a murder at the same time everyday or night.)  If it is a haunting or an intelligent spirit is involved, (you will know if you see an (human form apparition) at different times of the day, an investigation might clear up why the spirit is anchored to the house. For instance the intelligent spirit might have a message etc... Also, Is the house located on a ancient Native American burial ground? Please keep in touch and feel free to call or email anytime. I'd love to hear how you like the new house!!

Blessings & Joy,

Lori McDonald, CGH

Blue Ball Of Fire

"I have had ghosts following me around for my entire life, up until about a year ago. Or so I thought. I have had many strange encounters and sightings, but most recently, I have seen a total of 11 orbs in a 2 day period. Most of my what I seen was out of the corner of my eye, however, I had an absolutely clear and unmistakable sighting that I will never forget. I was outside my house at about 10:00 pm, smoking a cigarette. I was looking up at the sky and an orb flew right over me. It was a brilliant bluish color and was moving  at a phenomenal speed. It was actually so bright that it looked like a blue ball of fire, comparable to the color blue that you would find in a butane flame. It was approximately double the size of a basketball and was on a direct course for impact about 40 feet from my location when it vanished into thin air. Since that sighting, I have seen a total of 11 such wonders. Now, I go outside with the intended purpose of trying to film one with my video camera. The problem is that they don't come around any more. I guess that they don't want to be filmed!"

Cold As Ice

"I was at my dad's house in Medford, Oregon, which is his roommate's house. It was built around 1890. I was walking through the small hall when some tall man walked by me. I didn't really look right at him, but, I could feel the wind he made when he walked by me and I felt his shoulder brush against mine. I turned around to say something to him because I had thought it was my dad's roommate, and no one was there. Also, my dad's roommate was sitting clear across the house asleep in a recliner. There is no way he could've walked passed me and then gotten to his chair that fast and, would've heard him if he had ran across the hardwood floor like that. My dad and his roommate have also experienced an encounter in that house with a ghost too. Like people walking by them without them even realizing it, a sudden loud uproar noise of a lot of people laughing and talking and having a good time, in the back living room that always seems to be as cold as ice."

Creatures In The Mirror

"I don’t know if you would be familiar with this or not. From the descriptions on the website, I would guess it would be considered a haunting, but can a person have an interaction with one?? When I was younger, I had 2 “creatures” that lived in the bureau mirror in the bedroom of an upstairs apartment my grandparents owned above their shop. They (the “creatures”) were not always there, and I could not call to them to show up. Sometimes they were just there. And they spoke to me, and I to them.   This went on for as long as I can remember… and then we moved the business. I don’t know what happened to the mirror. I don’t recall too vividly what they looked like (best as I can say is puppet-like) and they had deep kind of scratchy voices. Mostly they would be at the bottom left side of the mirror…although not always. They never frightened me, and often would tell me to stay away from the window… there was a fire escape outside of it. Do you have any opinions on this situation??"

Loud Knocking

"Every home I have ever lived in...I have experienced something paranormal...always have seen or heard a ghost (if you may). I have seen actual ghosts...what you call class A; I have also experienced all phenomena...knocking on specific walls where no human could have done it (and on a routine basis); things disappearing (what the Scots call the borrowers); sounds--like a heavy chair being moved across the floor when no one was in the room (others heard it too). But where I live now, I have experienced the greatest experiences...and fear I am just north of Santa Barbara...When I first moved to this town, we moved into a brand new townhouse, my 1 /12 year daughter, teenaged step-daughter, husband and me. We would hear loud knockings along the walls and our dog absolutely, positively refused to go up the stairs...hair up on its back, growling, etc. at various times. The baby would be upstairs, and my teenager and myself (and dog) would be downstairs during naptime. It would sound like someone was very quickly lifting and dropping the crib...over and over. My baby would laugh hysterically.. like she was being entertained. My step daughter and I would just stare at each other, and dog would do the not-going-up-the-stairs-you-can't-make-me! stance. I would fly up there, but nothing would be amiss. My baby would be standing in the crib with a big smile. This happened numerous times. One time, the next door neighbor, who shared a wall with us, came knocking and asked us to stop banging on the stairwell wall! We told her, we thought she was doing it! I Could never determine more than that had once been the longtime property of some old couple and no dwelling to anyone's memory had ever been there. But we do live in Indian Territory (9,000year history) and I always had the feeling it was a young teenager spirit coming to find a playmate...but who knows for sure."

Playing The Ouija Board

"On the night of Nov.10 1999 me and two friends were in my basement playing the Ouija board... we were contacted by an entity named Barbara who said she inhabits the old kemper square.... at the time we just knew kemper as an old place in town where people throw weddings and stuff.... but Barbara told us she was a nun... and she was killed there.... now this may sound crazy but it really concerned me... I started to do research and found out that kemper was  at one time a catholic school... this was all to creepy... she said she was raped and beaten on or at 1031... could be a date or a time. she would not tell us who had done it.....she also told us to come to her at kemper... another number was mentioned 241... could be a room or a time...so we decided to go out there we pulled in to the gates at exactly 2:41am nothing to strange was seen except some red lights in the building which were probably exit signs... we snapped a few pictures and drove away in a hurry...I am so interested in this place that I decided to do a little research of my own.... so on the night of 11/11/99 me my friend Eric and my friend gene (all Kenosha locals) decided to go ghost hunting..... I bought all the proper equipment for EVP (electronic voice phenomenon) and a disposable 27 exp. camera..... and at 6:30 PM we arrived at kemper..... I recorded the whole thing.... we walked around the building twice snapping pictures and asking questions to seemingly no one.... almost as soon as we ran out of film is when the strange things started to happen. I looked in the window on the door in the back area courtyard of the mansion between the church and the large building and to the right on the wall was an old picture of a nun... as soon as I saw it I looked away for some strange reason I couldn't look back in... then a strange noise came from underneath us... and steam started to come out of a pipe on the leftmost wall... through the steam I saw a ladylike silhouette facing me through the window... so we all ran.. I developed the photos and I have some of the best paranormal photos I have ever seen... I also have about 2 EVP sounds.... we went back again and took about an hour of video footage and some more pictures... if your interested in helping us let me know.... I am sure Kemper hall has many more unseen mysteries."

Sleep Paralysis ?

"I was lying in my girlfriend's bed while she was in the other room at her computer, the door was half way open and I was almost a sleep. I heard a  humming noise  in my ears, but I disregarded it until it became increasingly  loud. By that point it was to late I felt paralyzed and I couldn't move or open up my eyes or make any noise. I was extremely scared because this was the first time anything like this had ever happened to me. Something poked me in the leg twice and I began to bounce slightly  on the bed. My girlfriend walked by and brushed up against  my arm and with that contact I regained normal control of my body. She has mentioned the same thing happening to her only when the door was open and she was in bed. "They" never touched her though."

The Haunted House Built in 1901

She is the type of person that keeps the door shut to her room when she goes to bed at night, and the first time she did this she was awakened by knocking at the door. She first ignored the knocking till it moved to the window an turned to more of a banging. This same type of knocking has happened several time since then, sometimes it starts at one corner of her room and moves around the room. She also claims to feel a presents in one corner of the room and a feeling of cold when the rest of the room is warm. I felt this cold tonight when we were doing some investigating of our own tonight, I don't know if I felt the presence of something but at times it would really make your skin crawl. On another occasion in the same room one of her dogs that was sleeping on the floor next to her bed began to bark and growl at the wall. We have tried to figure out reasons for the cold areas that seem to appear in the house for this house was built in 1901 (she has the original deed) we have found no apparent drafts or open doors or windows to explain the cold spots when they happen. She has also seen ghosts. One one occasion she was doing her hair in the down stairs bathroom, when she saw the reflection of a man standing behind her, when she turned around he was gone. Another time she was walking in from the outside and again she saw a man standing behind her daughter who was standing in the doorway of the same room in which she had seen the figure before. A third sighting happened upstairs shortly after they moved in, this time is was the figure of a woman dressed in black that walked past her bedroom door. Her daughter also claims to have seen one of a dog ( not theirs ). And lastly, they have also experienced hearing sighs, a cupboard door that was propped open next to the refrigerator slammed in to the refrigerator with enough force to knock a figure of a pig off the refrigerator, the voice of a small child calling mom, and on a few occasions the sound of a door opening and closing. This woman lives in the house with her daughter and great uncle. She has been asked by other people that she knows and have lived in this town if she likes living in this house and has she seen the ghost that haunts it?"
